ASLL
INC FORMS STUTTERING GROUP FOR ADOLESCENTS AND PRE-TEENS
|
Although
stuttering is a motor speech disorder, not an emotional
disorder, people who stutter may experience feelings of anger,
embarrassment, guilt, shame and isolation.
Associates in
Speech, Language and Learning, Inc. announces the formation of a
therapy group for adolescents and pre-teens who are dysfluent.
Led by Mary Ann Moore, director of ASLL INC and Board Recognized
Specialist in Fluency Disorders, and Melissa Bruce, M.S.,
CCC-SLP, also a Board Recognized Specialist in Fluency
Disorders, the group is open to both teens and pre-teens. A
parent group will run concurrently and separately from the
teens. The group will meet to discuss the difficulties of
stuttering, improve fluency skills, and have a safe place for
discussion. Plans include a sibling night later in the sequence
of sessions.
Meetings will
be held Mondays from 6:45-8:15 PM at ASLL INC for 10 weeks.
Participants should be able to make a 10-week participation
commitment. The group will have a minimum of five members with a
maximum of nine. Cost is $75.00 per session and can be paid
monthly. Starting date will be determined when adequate interest
is established.
To enroll or to
obtain further information, please call our offices between
10:00 and 2:00 Monday through Friday. Phone 281-894-6009. If
preferable, e-mail Mary Ann Moore at asllinc@swbell.net.
